Mr. Edwin Clarke
Manager - Manufacturing Engineering
Black and Decker Mfg. Co.
Towson, Md 21204
Dear Mr. Clarke:
\J
Enclosed is the Vicarm manipulator literature you recently
requested. Vicarm manipulators are currently being used by the National
Bureau of Standards in Gaithersberg, Md., the Naval Research Laboratory in
Washington, D.C., and the General Motors Corp. in Michigan. We are also
about to deliver a system to the Western Electric Co. in Princeton, N.J.
These are a few example installations in development and experimental
situations.
Should you be interested in 8-12 model M.I.T. manipulators in a
single installation, the cost would be about $25,000 per manipulator,
including all controllers, and computers. Because Vicarm manipulators are
completely and continuously computer controlled, they are ideally suited
for multiple station applications such as you apparantly have in mind. As
we use an advanced computer program, our arms are also very versatile.
They can be used on moving conveyor belts, rotary tables, in coordination
with external sensors, and with general purpose tools to do small part
assembly tasks.\.
